Important rule change: I've decided the fest should be a Gallifrey AND Bernice Summerfield fest this year. The rules have therefore changed slightly to reflect this. Anything to do with Benny is in italics.

SIGN UPS: are open from now until Friday, January 11th 2013. You should receive an assignment within a couple of days.

You must respond to your assignment email, so that I know that the assignment is OK and you're still participating. If you can't write the assignment, email me as soon as possible, and I'll attempt to reassign you. If I don't hear from you in a week, I will comment on your journal. If I still haven't heard from you another week after that, I'll assume you are no longer participating. (If you know in advance you won't be around during that time, just PM/email me or comment here.)

PROMPTS: To sign up, submit three prompts for fic and/or three prompts for art and/or a link to any Gallifrey or Benny fic under 10,000 words that you would like to be podficced. (You can reuse a prompt for fic AND art). Please keep your Gallifrey and Benny requests separate - this means if you want fic but don't mind which you get, please submit three Gallifrey fic prompts and three Benny fic prompts.

I, then, shuffle everything around, so that everyone gets the best possible assignment. You'll be sent three prompts, and write or draw (at least) one them.

Guidelines for prompts:
Maximum one of three can be explicitly shippy, so assigning writers/artists is not completely impossible. The others can, however, imply preferences i.e. 'would not say no to some Leela/Narvin in this fic'.

Prompts can be as brief or detailed as is necessary for your assignee to know what kind of fic or art you'd like, but too brief/too vague may make it difficult for the person trying to fill your prompts. (For these examples, I turned to my trusty Lord High Chancellor, [livejournal.com profile] x_los)

Too brief: A fic with Brax in it!
Brief but good: Brax vs. Daleks.
More specific is better: Remember Romana's ridiculous Harry Potter-esque YA novel, the one she's writing in Zagreus? write that, including other Gallifrey characters.'
This level of specific is also good: We've seen Romana and Leela hanging out on the Davida, the Femslash Vacation World--but perhaps what the world REALLY needs is Narvin and Brax hanging out and having (supremely unslashy, and not even that friendly) Boys' Time. Bonus points for a similar body-swap scenario. They're both Time Lords, so you loose out on the Suddenly Stupid Romana effect, but I can scarcely imagine two people /less/ pleased to swap bodies, and bodyswap is always either slashy/sexy or hilarious. Frequently both.

N.B. This is not Yuletide, where you have to imply very vaguely what you would like. We're looking for specific story-type prompts, such as you would leave on an anon meme.

Prompts can include other Doctor Who characters, but must include at least one Gallifrey (audio series) character or one Benny character with some reference to the world of either series. Don't just use Gallifrey as a setting for your Theta/Koschei (or whatever). Don't leave a prompt about Romana's time travelling with Four, unless it (for example) relates specifically to her relationship with Brax, either before or after, or how she adjusts to life as the president in the wake of travelling with Four. The Doctor doesn't count as a Gallifrey character, but could be part of the prompt (see above). In short - be sensible. I'm sure you know what feels like a Gallifrey audio-based prompt and what feels like a sneaky Doctor Who prompt pretending to be a Gallifrey prompt.
Lines get a little tricky here if we're including the Virgin seventh Doctor NAs that have Benny in them, but again - just be sensible with your prompts.

AUs (including wacky AUs, such as High School AU) are cool and allowed. Crossovers (including crossovers with Doctor Who) are allowed. Gallifrey characters on planets that aren't Gallifrey are allowed.

If you have any questions about what is acceptable, PM or email me.

Notes on prompting for podfics: Please nominate at least one story that is less than 10,000 words. You can nominate longer stories as well, but even 10,000 is a lot of words. If possible include a range of pairings and ratings. All the notes on acceptable character content apply here too.

You can ask for podfic of your own stories OR someone else's fic, but please ask permission from the author of any fic you want recorded.

DEADLINES: Your fic or art or podfic should be finished and posted between Saturday the 23rd February and Monday the 25th of February (unless you've previously told me there's a problem with that date).

DROPPING OUT: If you have to drop out for whatever reason, please let me know either through PM or email. I understand if last minute things come up, but if you think you're going to need to drop out tell me early, rather than later. I will then email all those who have volunteered to pinch-hit.

If you dropped out last year, you can take part again this year.

PINCH-HITTING: Pinch-hitters are awesome, and can therefore have an extra month to write/draw/podfic in. If you want, you can sign up only as a pinch-hitter (i.e. with no requests). In that case, please just comment here with your name and email address.

Fic FAQ
How long should it be? Minimum 1000, there is no maximum.

Are all ratings allowed? Yes, although remember it is a gift exchange so think about what your prompter would like.

What levels of quality are you expecting? Spellcheck is essential. Betas are advisable. There will be an option in your sign-up form to volunteer as a beta, and I will add you to the list. You don't have to use one of the betas on this list, of course, but if you're looking for someone they are there.

What if I want to do more than one of my prompts? Go for it!

What if I only know Gallifrey or Benny? No problem - I won't assign you prompts for canon you don't know.

Art FAQ
What am I signing up for? Three prompts from someone who has specified they want art, either just art or art and/or fic. You can do one or more of them. I'll probably send you the fic prompts as well as the art prompts, but you don't need to use them - unless you want to. There probably won't be as much choice of which prompts you get as with fic, but I'll do what I can to make sure you aren't doing something you hate. Be sure to specify what you won't draw in your application.

What if I want to create art AND fic/what if I want to do more than one of my prompts? Go for it!

What if I want to create art of someone's fic after they've posted it? Go for it! If you post to the master list, I'll add it there for future fans to enjoy.

What if I only know Gallifrey or Benny? No problem - I won't assign you prompts for canon you don't know.

Podfic FAQ
What am I signing up for? Produce a podfic of a previously written Gallifrey or Benny story. You will be asked for your preferences (and please do list anything you are absolutely unwilling to do) but given the range of fics in the fandom there may not be a wide range of choice. Participants have been asked to nominate at least one story under 10,000 words and a range of pairings and ratings if possible. I'll send you the fic and art prompts (if any) as well, so you have those to choose from.

What happens if no one asks for podfic that I am willing to produce? I'll contact all podficcers before I match everyone up for good, and make sure that everyone's happy with something - and/or you can withdraw. The fic-level situation is a bit tricky, but it'd be nice to have podfic as part of the challenge if possible.

What about if I want to podfic something that is produced for this fest? Go ahead! That would be brilliant.

What if I only know Gallifrey or Benny? No problem - I won't assign you prompts for canon you don't know.

Posting your work
When you've finished your fic/art, WAIT until the 23rd February: first reveal date. Then post what you've done to your journal, or to the fic or media journal of your choice (not this one) and post a comment with a link to wherever you put your fic/art on the masterlist, which will be up by then.

Unlike other fic exchanges, there won't be a period of story-anonymity, because... that annoys me, and in a fandom this small, I don't think there's much chance of not recognising someone's writing/art style/voice.

When you post your work please include a header to help make archiving easier. You can copypaste a good header format from the text-area below. This header is for fic - for art just remove the 'word count' and 'summary'.

So I can submit three prompts for fic and three different prompts for art (six in all) and then either my three fic prompts get assigned to a fic person, or my three art prompts get assigned to an art person?

So, on the prompts, is requesting an AU okay? I mean, a more out-there AU that's about the Gallifrey characters, but which doesn't include the Gallifrey setting? Like (for example, I would not request this) the one where Romana is the captain of a ship, and Darkel is trying to mutiny, and Arkadian is a pirate. I understand if you're trying to keep this focused on the audios, but I wondered.

Awesome, thanks. And it was a joke at first, but I am now really tempted to prompt the sailing idea...

I've got nothing very important to say or ask, but Narvin and Brax going to Femslash Vacation World sounds like the best idea ever.

No, wait I have a question to ask (whew) - is there a certain quality you're looking for in your art? Like is colour a requirement and etc. Or else I might just end up drawing really sketchy and etc and this might not be the sort of quality you're after so YOU MUST STOP ME FROM DOING IT.

I don't know if anyone's doing the "High School AU" idea (I'm not doing anything myself because I sort of suck at writing fan fiction) but thanks so much for the idea because I've spent the last couple of days imagining how it would work.
So, the kids at the private school "Gallifrey High" are shocked to be joined by working-class girl Leela. (Her rich uncle Doctor John Smith paid for her to go. Or something.)Romana is Head Girl, the High Council are prefects, the Chancellery Guards are the football team... And what's more fun than imagining Darkel and Pandora as bitchy school girls spreading gossip or Elbon as the first aider who tries to get people to pay for plasters?

Wow thanks! It's possible I'll try writing it sometime and then try getting past my dislike of letting other people read fiction I've written...

Before requesting podfic, do I need to request permission from the authors whose stories I'd like to ask for?

Heh, I wonder what it says that I didn't even consider my own work. Thanks for the quick reply!
